NodeCraft
An Unreal Engine 5 plugin that restyles the Blueprint and Material editors: hand-built themes, a Custom theme you colour yourself, and wire routing that goes around your nodes instead of through them.

A NodeCraft theme restyles the whole graph: nodes, pins, wires, comments and the backdrop behind it all.
Pick a look from the NodeCraft dropdown and it changes straight away, with no restart. It only changes how graphs are drawn, so your assets are never modified and nothing ships in your game.
I designed, built and published it on my own, from the theme system and the router to the docs site and the Fab listing.

Every theme, up close

Three ways to draw a wire
Your whole editor, in theme
Match Editor Colors
One toggle gives the entire Unreal Editor colours that go with your graph theme: 42 colours per theme, editable in the theme asset. Turn it off and your own editor theme comes back.
Halloween and Witching Hour
Two dark, eerie themes. Glass nodes with glowing borders over a jack-o’-lantern grid, and notched plaques with cobwebs in a misty violet room.
Wire Glow and Theme Order
Glow size and strength per theme, and a drag list that sets the order themes appear in the menus.
Engine-drawn nodes
The few Blueprint nodes Unreal draws itself, like Make Struct and Create Widget, now pick up the theme too.
1.2 is packaged for all three engine versions. Screenshots go up here once it is live on Fab.
How it works
Themes are data, not code
Every colour, material, pin icon, font, node shape, wire style and backdrop lives in a theme asset you edit inside Unreal. Open graphs update straight away, and teams share a look through source control.
A router that respects your layout
Manhattan and Subway find a clear path around the nodes in the way. Routes depend only on the graph, so wires hold still while you pan and zoom.
Backdrops written in HLSL
A real-time fluid simulation behind Neon, a drifting starfield behind Aetherial and paper grain behind Atelier, each one a live material behind the graph.
Light on the editor
Measured on my RTX 2070 with a 40-node Blueprint, dragging nodes costs about a millisecond of CPU a frame and routing under 0.2 ms. Most themes add nothing measurable to rendering; Neon’s fluid simulation is the one heavy, optional extra.
Nothing written into your work
Theme choices are remembered per project in your own settings, never by editing the theme assets, so there are no save prompts and nothing of NodeCraft ends up in your Blueprints.
Part of the editor
A NodeCraft dropdown in the Blueprint, Animation Blueprint, Widget Blueprint and Material editors. Editor-only, so it never compiles into a packaged game.
Shipped, then kept shipping
One branch per engine
I develop on one branch and merge into separate 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8 release branches, so every engine version gets a build made for it.
A packaging script
A Python script packages each version and checks the starting themes before anything goes to Fab.
Through Fab review
The first submission failed review over binaries left in the zip and a missing Config folder. I fixed both and it went live the next day.
Owning a bad bug
1.0 could write a NodeCraft class into buyers’ Blueprints, which crashed projects without the plugin. I found it three days after launch, shipped a fix with a redirect that stays in every future version, and gave buyers recovery steps.
Changelog
- 1.2Packaged · Oct 2026
Halloween and Witching Hour themes, Match Editor Colors, adjustable Wire Glow, Theme Order, and themed versions of the nodes Unreal draws itself.
Merged into the 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8 branches and packaged for each.
- 1.130 Sep 2026
Midnight and Fairy Dust, the Custom theme, SVG pin icons that stay sharp at any zoom, and a new router that keeps wires still while you pan and zoom.
It also fixed a serious bug from 1.0: Blueprints saved with it could crash projects without NodeCraft installed. The fix shipped eight days after launch, with recovery steps for buyers.
- 1.022 Sep 2026
The first release on Fab: five themes, Manhattan and Subway routing, wire spacing, animated backdrops and fully editable theme assets.
- 0.xJun – Sep 2026
Started life as ColorPrint: Neon, Liquid Glass, Command, Aetherial and Atelier, the routers and the pin system, built over the summer.
